Towns & Nations

Land is power. Every number on this page comes from the live server configuration, so you can plan your treasury before you spend a coin.

At a glance

$250Found a town (includes the first chunk)
$25+First extra chunk. Every claim costs 4% more than the last
8Chunks allowed per resident
$500Each outpost
$10Town upkeep per day
$1,000Found a nation
$100Nation upkeep per day
12:00New day (UTC): upkeep and taxes are collected

Only the Earth overworld can be claimed. Spawn, the arena world, the Nether and the End are unclaimable. A chunk (townblock) is 16×16 blocks and covers full height.

Found a town

Stand on your homeblock

The chunk you stand in becomes the homeblock and the town spawn. You need $250 on you. Town names can be up to 20 characters.

/town new <name>

Fund the bank

Claims, upkeep and outposts are paid from the town bank, not your pocket. Anyone in the town can deposit; the mayor can withdraw.

/t deposit <amount>/t withdraw <amount>/t

Claim around you

Claim chunk by chunk, or in a square/circle of up to radius 4 at once. New claims must touch your existing land.

/t claim/t claim rect <radius>/t claim circle <radius>/towny map

Recruit

Towns are invite-only by default. Every resident raises your claim limit by 8 chunks and unlocks higher town levels. Short on players? Buy extra chunks with /t buy bonus.

/t add <player>/t toggle open/t join <town>/accept

Claims

Limits

  • 8 chunks per resident, plus a bonus if your town is in a nation (see nation levels).
  • Buy extra chunks with /t buy bonus <amount> (paid from the town bank), so small towns can grow without recruiting. Up to 1,000 per town; the first costs $200 and each one after costs 2% more, up to $5,000 each (about $62k for the first 100). Bought chunks still cost the normal claim price to claim.
  • Claims get more expensive as the town grows: each chunk costs 4% more than the one before, up to $5,000 a chunk. See the price table.
  • New claims must be at least 5 chunks from another town's land and homeblock. Towns in the same nation ignore this.
  • A resident can own up to 100 personal plots.

Unclaiming

  • Unclaiming refunds nothing.
  • Unclaimed land regenerates to its original terrain, so builds on it are lost. Ore blocks, storage blocks and spawners are left alone.
  • Land can't be overclaimed or stolen. The only way to take a town is by siege.
  • A besieged town can't claim, unclaim or recruit until the siege ends.

Claim prices

The price depends on how many chunks the town already owns. Run /towny prices in game for your town's next price.

Chunk numberPrice of that chunk
2nd$25
10th$36
25th$64
50th$171
75th$455
100th$1,214
135th and up$5,000 (cap)

Claiming your first 100 chunks costs about $31,000 in total. Unclaiming refunds nothing.

Outposts

An outpost is a claim that doesn't touch your town, for a mine, a port or a forward base. Each costs $500 plus the normal chunk price, must be at least 5 chunks from your other land, and gets its own spawn point.

/t claim outpost/t outpost list/t outpost <number>

Town levels

Your town's title and the mayor's title rise with resident count. They are cosmetic: claim limits come from the 8-per-resident rule.

ResidentsTown titleMayor titleChunks (base)
1SettlementHermit8
2HamletChief16
6VillageBaron Von48
10TownViscount80
14Large TownCount Von112
20CityEarl160
24Large CityDuke192
28MetropolisLord224

Chunks shown are the minimum for that resident count, before any nation bonus.

Upkeep & taxes

No debt, no grace period. Bankruptcy is turned off. If the town bank can't cover the $10 upkeep at 12:00 UTC, the town is deleted and its land regenerates. A nation that can't pay its $100 is disbanded the same way.

Town taxes

Mayors can charge residents a daily tax, collected at new day. Taxes are a percentage of each resident's balance by default.

  • Up to 25% per day, capped at $10,000 per resident.
  • Or switch to a flat amount of up to $1,000.
  • Mayors and town assistants are tax-exempt.
  • A resident who can't pay is removed from the town.
/t set taxes <amount>/t toggle taxpercent

Plot taxes

Separate daily rates can be set for owned plots, shop plots and embassy plots (up to $1,000 each).

/t set plottax <amt>/t set shoptax <amt>/t set embassytax <amt>

Nation taxes work the same way on member towns (capitals don't pay). Every death also costs the victim $1.

Ranks

The mayor holds every town power. Hand out ranks so the town keeps running while you're offline. If the mayor leaves, an assistant takes over.

RankWhat it can do
ResidentBuild in town land, claim and sell plots they own, deposit to the bank, use town chat and the town spawn.
HelperUse doors, chests, furnaces and other switches anywhere in town.
SheriffJail and unjail outlaws and criminals.
AssistantClaim land, invite residents, manage plots, set public/private, grant helper and VIP. Tax-exempt and can't be kicked.
MayorEverything: withdraw, set taxes, kick, toggles, ranks, found or join a nation, start a revolt siege, surrender, toggle peaceful.
Nation helperInvite towns to the nation.
Nation assistantInvite towns, manage allies and enemies, start and abandon conquest sieges, plunder, pay soldiers.
KingEvery nation and siege power, including invading conquered towns.
/t rank add <player> <rank>/t rank remove <player> <rank>/n rank add <player> <rank>/t ranklist

Plots & permissions

Out of the box, residents can build, break and open containers anywhere in town land. Nobody else can: not your nation, not your allies, not outsiders. A resident who claims a plot makes it theirs, and only they and their friends can touch it.

Town defaults

  • PvP: on in towns. Toggle with /t toggle pvp (30-second cooldown).
  • Fire, explosions and hostile mobs: off.
  • Inside your own town you regenerate health and don't lose hunger.
  • During a siege, the battle overrides plot protection in the siege zone.

Plot types

Set a type on the plot you stand in. Shops and embassies can carry their own tax.

shopembassyarenafarminnjailwildsbank
/plot set <type>/plot set reset
Plot commands
/plot claimTake ownership of a plot that's for sale.
/plot forsale <price>Put a plot on sale. /plot notforsale takes it off.
/plot unclaimGive your plot back to the town.
/plot permShow who can build, break, use items and switch here.
/plot set perm <group> <action> on|offGroups: resident/friend, town, nation, ally, outsider. Actions: build, destroy, switch, itemuse.
/plot trust add <player>Give one player full rights on this plot.
/res friend add <player>Friends can build in every plot you own.
/plot toggle pvp|fire|explosion|mobsPer-plot toggles for plot owners.
/t set perm <group> <action> on|offMayor: the same switches for all town-owned land.

Spawn fees go to the destination town's bank. Every town or nation spawn has a 30-second cooldown. You can't teleport into enemy towns, towns where you are an outlaw, or another town's siege zone, and town spawn is blocked while you are combat-tagged.

Nations

Any mayor with $1,000 can found a nation; their town becomes the capital. Nations unlock alliances, nation chat, shared spawns, extra claims for every member town, and the right to wage siege war.

  • No limit on the number of towns, residents or allies. Towns don't need to be near the capital.
  • Alliances are mutual: both kings have to add each other.

  • Deleting a nation refunds 80% of what was spent founding it.

Chat

Every message carries your town and nation tag, and your name is coloured by your rank: kings gold, mayors aqua. Type a channel command on its own to switch to it, or follow it with a message to send one line there.
